Step 7: FORWARD — Schedule business and executive coaching, with quarterly & yearly reviews
At Optimisation Capital, our 7-Step Business & Executive Coaching Framework is designed to help leadership teams move from ambition to execution in a structured, practical, and repeatable way.
Each step builds deliberately on the previous one. In this blog, we move to Step 7 – FORWARD.
Moving the Business Forward
Step 7 is about taking everything built in the previous six steps and driving it forward with momentum, clarity, and accountability.
At this stage, we introduce Optimisation Capital’s Business & Executive Coaching, using the 7-step framework as the backbone to accelerate progress and help businesses achieve their desired outcomes more efficiently.
Business and executive coaching is not about mentoring or telling you what to do. It is about providing an independent, objective voice within the organisation, one that helps guide thinking, challenge assumptions, and support execution.
Every business is different. Some of the seven steps may already be well established, while others may need refinement. Our framework is adaptable across industries and organisational structures, but the underlying principles remain consistent.
Our goal is simple:
Help businesses accelerate towards their end objectives
Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement
Reinforce and build on what is already working well
We act as a trusted sounding board for executives and teams, someone who can challenge thinking, ask “left-field” questions, and, when needed, call out the “white elephants in the room” that are often difficult to address internally.
Creating Structure, Cadence & Momentum
A key part of Step 7 is introducing a more structured cadence to how the business operates and moves forward.
While many organisations are already performing well in parts of the framework, we help to:
Review existing processes
Identify blind spots
Improve decision-making through better questioning and structure
Importantly, we are not the executives, you are. You know your business best.
Our role is to guide the process, helping you unlock the answers and solutions that already exist within your team. We provide the structure and discipline that enables challenges to be broken down, addressed, and progressed effectively.
We are not here to eliminate mistakes, but to ensure they are processed, understood, and used to move the business forward.
The Offsite: Working On the Business, Not In It
Our most effective engagements typically begin with a two-day offsite involving key executives and divisional leaders. This is a critical reset.
Stepping away from the day-to-day environment allows leadership teams to focus on the business, rather than being consumed by it, something many organisations struggle to do consistently.
Before the Offsite
We begin with detailed questionnaires and pre-work to ensure:
The coach arrives well-informed
Key objectives and desired outcomes are clearly defined
Initial insights and themes are identified early
This preparation sets the foundation for a highly productive sessions.
The Two-Day Process
During the offsite, we systematically work through all seven steps:
VISION → TEAM → METRICS → SYSTEMS → CHALLENGES → DRIVE → FORWARD
Each step is explored in detail, with active participation from all attendees.
You may find that the Optimisation Capital coach speaks less than expected, because the real value comes from the team working through the process together, gaining clarity, and building alignment.
What often surprises participants is how simple and effective the process can be when structured correctly.
For each step:
A clear framework is applied
Open discussion is encouraged
A tailored template is created for your business
We ensure balanced participation, creating space for all voices to be heard. Where necessary, we step in to manage dominant personalities and maintain a constructive dynamic.
Emotions and debate are natural, nd often healthy. However, having an independent facilitator ensures discussions remain productive, focused, and lead to clear outcomes.
Why Two Days Matters
The two-day format allows:
Depth of discussion and true clarity
Stronger team interaction and alignment
Development of personal relationships and trust
In today’s working environment, reduced face-to-face interaction has impacted communication and collaboration. Bringing teams together in this way is a major advantage.
At the end of the offsite, the business leaves with:
A complete set of structured templates across all seven steps
Clear alignment on priorities
A defined and actionable way forward
The 90-Day Execution Cycle
Following the offsite, we move to a 90-day execution cycle.
Before leaving, we:
Schedule the next offsite (approximately 90 days later)
Agree key priorities and commitments
Ideally, these sessions are also held away from the office, reinforcing the discipline of working on the business.
At each 90-day session, we:
Review progress against commitments
Refine and recalibrate where needed
Set the next 90-day plan
Between sessions, Optimisation Capital Ltd business and executive provides ongoing coaching support through monthly or bi-weekly check-ins with key executives.
These sessions:
Maintain accountability
Provide a confidential space to discuss challenges
Ensure steady progress against agreed KPIs
We are not lifestyle coaches. but we recognise that personal and professional challenges often overlap, and we help navigate these where they impact performance with trust.
Building Momentum & Accountability
This structured approach creates:
Sustained momentum across the organisation
Stronger alignment between individuals and teams
A culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Confidentiality is critical. Individuals must feel comfortable discussing challenges openly, this is a key part of achieving meaningful progress.
The Annual Review & Reset
Alongside the 90-day cycles, we typically conduct an annual offsite.
This includes:
A full-year review of performance
Key learnings and adjustments
Refinement of long-term vision
Often, this is combined with a more informal setting (e.g. a team dinner), helping to build rapport and strengthen relationships.
From here, we define:
The next 12-month vision
The supporting 90-day execution plans
Breaking long-term goals into manageable steps is essential to achieving meaningful outcomes.
Looking Ahead
When this process is working well, businesses begin to experience a more fluid, aligned, and effective way of operating.
The focus remains on outcomes.
While perfection is not the goal, we typically aim for ~80% execution success and when the framework is embedded effectively, there is no reason why even more cannot be achieved.
By year two, most organisations find:
Greater ease in execution
Increased team cohesion
A more enjoyable and rewarding way of working
Final Thought
Step 7 – FORWARD is where everything comes together.
It is about execution, accountability, and momentum, turning strategy into results and ensuring the business continues to evolve and grow.
In our next blog we will summaries our 7-Step Optimisation Capital Ltd process.
